Frequently Asked Questions
What is a “non-diet” nutritionist?
Non-diet is a weight-neutral, research-based approach to health that focuses on lifestyle practices. We measure health using clinical testing, mood, energy, and physical cues rather than weight. For example, non-diet nutritionists teach clients to understand their body’s hunger and fullness cues, practice food neutrality (no good or bad foods), and unlearn diet-culture beliefs. Non-diet nutritionists steer clear from using strict meals plan, scales, and calorie and macro counting with clients. I pull from Intuitive Eating, Healthy at Every Size, Mindfulness, and other evidence-based non-diet approaches to nutrition and wellness.
What can I expect in a session?
Each session can look very different depending on your needs and goals. Typically, we will begin each session with a check-in on successes and challenges, revisit goals, discuss supportive foods and herbs related to your body’s process, and review resources. I am a holistic nutritionist, so we may incorporate mind, body, and spirit interventions in session depending on what is presented. For example, if appropriate, we may start or end the session with a brief grounding or focused meditation. For those wanting Intuitive Eating and/or body image support, we may work with exercises from recommended workbooks and readings.
How long are the sessions?
50 minutes. I do offer 25- minute sessions for returning clients. However, I recommend the full 50 minutes for a thorough check-in.
Do you meet in person?
No, all sessions are virtual at this time. In-person sessions may be available to those who are open to a “nature” session outside.
Do you accept insurance?
No, but some clients have received coverage via referral from their PCP or reimbursed via their HSA.
Do you offer Sliding Scale?
Yes, please reference my Sliding Scale form for more information. Rate adjusted to household income.
Are you a therapist?
Technically and legally, no. I do have my Master's in Social Work and work as a therapist outside of my private practice under supervision. The work we do can be powerfully healing and may surface old wounds. My training has granted me the ability to hold a safe space for clients, however, I am not a therapist. I am your nutritionist and health coach. I refer to clinical therapists to facilitate mental health support. I highly recommend that if you are seeking support for disordered eating or body image recovery, you consider working with a licensed therapist as a supportive addition to our work. I encourage building a well-rounded holistic healthcare team to support you. I am happy to answer any specific questions about the scope of practice with you or your healthcare team. I am working towards clinical licensure and will keep clients updated on any changes to my scope of practice as they come.
